I don’t know if there is clarity or not.

Their managers are pretty unclear so, with a few notable exceptions, they aren’t either.

I don’t know.

Up a creek without a paddle (very limited support).

Supported enough, but could be better.

Fully supported to perform optimally.

How enabled do you believe your direct reports and their teams feel they are to take risks (e.g. safety in failure, empowerment, quick decision-making, ease-of recalibration etc.)?

Don't know, nobody talks to me about risk.

Are you kidding me? No one uses the “f” word here… (failure).

Somewhat, but too many decisions get run up the flag pole.

Yes. The team is encouraged to take risks (and reap the rewards!).

How aligned do you believe your direct reports and their teams are with other cross-functional teams and departments?

I don’t know.

Functional silos are as tall as Mt. Everest.

Somewhat aligned – and sometimes more than others.

They vacation together.

How adept are your direct reports and their teams at effectively surfacing and resolving conflicts with their peers?

I don’t know. I shut my door when I hear shouting.

They are all passive and avoid conflict like the plague.

They talk forever searching for consensus and eventually someone with the biggest hammer wins.

They debate like chess masters….and make fast decisions

Would you say that your direct reports and their teams have the right talents, backgrounds, and experiences to be successful?

I don't know.

There are gaps as large as the Grand Canyon.

There are small gaps, but not a serious issue.

Yes, my team is solid as a granite.

Would you say that your direct reports and their teams have the “right people in the right seats on the bus” (i.e. the correct people are in the right roles)?

Don't know. I don't even know what our "bus" looks like.

Not really, a lot of people seem to be on different buses.

Probably could use a little seat shifting, but they are all on the same bus.

Yes, everyone is in the right seat, facing forward and ready for the journey.

Would you say that your direct reports have the desired leadership skills and abilities to lead high-performing teams?

Honestly, I have no idea.

There are no “leaders” on my team, only managers.

Some do and some don't.

All my leaders are ready to succeed me!

No idea, I don't know how to evaluate.

No, they have the effort of a team that can't win a game no matter what.

There are a few “underperformers” on our team, but for the most part everyone else is pulling their weight.

Yes. I have a perfect team that all produce excellent results, on time and within budget.
