I found this quotation in my inbox this morning. It’s a great reminder for leaders.
”Live in the present. Do the things that need to be done. Do all the good you can each day. The future will unfold.” Peace Pilgrim
Many of us are guilty of not being present. How can we be affected by what people (our team members, stakeholders, and customers) bring to us and remain present to them? Too often we are stuck in the past reliving a conversation or encounter that didn’t go the way we wanted or worried about some future challenge. Those of us who spend alot of time working virtually are especially guilty of not being present. We multi-task and check out when we are supposed to be engaged and participating in a virtual business conversation.
We need to be in the moment. We can’t lead in the present if we aren’t mentally in the present. What practice can you put in place right now to help you be more present? A visual reminder on the monitor? A couple five minute breathing breaks during the day? A commitment to close all other applications while you’re in a virtual meeting?
